Marie Friedsam, an LSS Founder, Remembered for Lifelong Dedication to Service

Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida (LSS) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of its original founders, Marie Friedsam (July 24th, 1926- November 17th, 2023).

A devoted advocate for community service and a driving force behind the organization's inception in 1979, Marie's commitment to serving those in need has left a lasting mark on the nonprofit and the wider community.

Marie Friedsam, a beloved member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, helped breathe life into the vision of LSS, leading the charge alongside fellow congregants to address the gaps in community services. Her dedication to the organization's mission has been instrumental in shaping its growth, and her impact extended beyond boardroom leadership to hands-on engagement with various committees.

In recognition of Marie's enduring legacy, LSS established the Friedsam Fund in September 2012 to pay tribute to her selfless giving.

Born on July 24, 1926, Marie Friedsam's life was a testament to the power of service. Her influence on LSS was profound, and her contributions were pivotal in positioning the organization as a beacon of hope for those facing adversity.

The memorial service to honor Marie Friedsam will take place at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10:00 am.

The service will be followed by a time for the community to come together, sharing memories and celebrating the life of a woman who dedicated herself to making a positive impact.

As the LSS family and the wider community grieve the loss of this remarkable individual, we take solace in the knowledge that Marie's spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched and the enduring impact of her work.
