'Food For Families' Mobile Pantry set
for Oct. 24 at Gerdau Ameristeel in Baldwin
1,000 Family Boxes will be distributed at the event, which takes food and needed supplies to those in need
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 9, 2008) - The Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida will host a "Food for Families" Mobile Pantry on Friday, Oct. 24, at Gerdau Ameristeel in the Baldwin community. Distribution will begin at 9 a.m. and will end when the last box has been distributed. The employees of Gerdau Ameristeel, located at 16670 Rebar Road (32234), consider themselves as "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," and the company will be partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank as the event sponsor for the fifth consecutive year. Early that morning, volunteers from the sponsoring group will package 25,000 pounds of food and children's educational items and set up for the day's activities. Contents of the Family Boxes have been designed to supplement what may already be in clients' kitchens, as well as to provide complete meals for families of four. Approximately 1,000 Family Boxes will be distributed to the local community. The Second Harvest Food Bank Mobile Pantry program takes donated food and goods directly to those in need. The distribution area is set up so that food recipients can take advantage of efficient "drive through" service. Volunteers from Gerdau will meet the food recipients and direct them to the distribution line. Additional volunteers will load the products, allowing for quick and efficient distribution. The mission of the Second Harvest Food Bank is to feed hungry people by soliciting and distributing food and grocery products and educating the public about the nature of and solutions to the problems of hunger.
