Volunteer
Your volunteer time supplements the work of our dedicated, albeit lean, staff. We appreciate the hours, expertise and leadership that thousands of volunteers share with us each year.
Each of our programs has need for volunteers at various times throughout the year. LSS has volunteer opportunities for people of all ages and physical abilities - from simple tasks that require little physical effort to more physically involved tasks including sorting food and stocking shelves, distributing door hangers in local neighborhoods, setting up apartments for arriving refugees and sorting donations at The Sharing Place Thrift Store.
Other core volunteer opportunities include:
- Assisting staff with administrative tasks
- Becoming a cultural mentor in our ‘Circle of Friends’ groups
- Sharing your retail expertise at the Sharing Place Thrift Store
- Helping clients with transportation needs
- Collecting items for use in silent auctions, special events, and raffles (Treasure Hunters)
- Organizing a donation drive
- Helping promote special events
- Working as the agency greeter at the LSS Welcome Center
- Making or collect blankets, hats, scarves for LSS clients
To help us match individuals with appropriate opportunities, we ask that all prospective volunteers register through our online system and provide some basic information. Once the registration form is complete, a LSS staff member will contact you to confirm your interest and schedule your first volunteer experience.
