"We make a
living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give."
- Winston Churchill
Charitable
giving is an American tradition - one unparalleled by any other country. Through
current tax laws our government encourages you to express your charitable
support.
In 1979, Lutheran Social Services was founded to help people in need. Today we
serve the needs of the hungry, legal refugees new to our country after escaping
religion and political persecution in their home countries, those who are
HIV-positive or living with AIDS, and those unable to take care themselves
financially due to chronic substance abuse, mental illness, or their age. Too
often, we have to turn away those in need due to lack of resources. As a 501(c)3
nonprofit organization, we assure you that all donations are used to help those
we serve.
You can be a part of helping Lutheran Social Services by donating needed items,
your time and/or financial gifts.

Charitable giving benefits the giver as much as the receiver.
Research shows the following:
-
People who give to
charity are 43 percent more likely to say they are “very happy.”
-
Volunteering plays a
role in alleviating chronic pain, reducing depression and enhancing one’s
personal well-being.
-
Giving to charity is
associated with higher levels of health and happiness, increased prosperity
and strong communities.
-
The most powerful
influence lies in shaping one’s moral vision and outlook toward those in
need.
