Frozen Food Month produces $20K
contribution from
Winn-Dixie
customers

Winn-Dixie customers made a difference in the lives of those less fortunate during National Frozen Food Month this past March. When shoppers purchased select frozen food items, a portion of the sales supported Feeding America - The Nation's Food Bank Network.

Products from Gorton's, SeaPak and Bird's Eye Foods raised $20,000. The funds will be divided among Feeding America food banks within Winn-Dixie's operating area of Florida and parts of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana - including the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida.

Second Harvest President and CEO Wayne Rieley accepted the check on behalf of Feeding America during a ceremony on May 5 along with officials from Acosta Sales & Marketing and Winn-Dixie (pictured above).

NALC Food Drive on Saturday, May 9;
postal carriers to pick up food donations

NALC logoWith the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida facing its greatest demand for food in the agency's 29-year history, it is calling on the First Coast community to join in the cause of fighting hunger and also provide important food resources for its neighbors in need during the May 9 "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

The process to participate is simple: 1) Select nonperishable food items to donate. 2) Place them in a bag or box. 3) Leave them beside your mailbox for your postal carrier to pick up on Saturday, May 9.

From there, the postal carriers deliver the products to mail substations and then to Second Harvest. Second Harvest provides food to more than 520 nonprofit agencies in north Florida that serve people in need.
